Do students like seven periods? Poll says otherwise...

A poll conducted at the school found that only 40% of students and staff are in favor of seven periods.

Out of the 180 students and staff members that were asked, 72 preferred the seven period schedule. “7 periods help you get more class options, and you can meet the A-G requirements faster” said Sylvasna Olivares, a Sophomore who supports the new change. Another student, Erin Rytych, said “now the seniors have an extra period to make up failed classes instead of having to take a zero period or staying after school.”

Mr. Opiyo, who teaches English, had another view on it. “Personally I don’t like a seven period day, but if it helps the kids I’m willing to make a sacrifice.” Many other students voiced their complaints, stating “My life does not revolve around school” and “I already have things to do at home on top of homework, but now I come home later and I can’t finish everything on time and it stresses me out.”

Whether we prefer the 7 period bell schedule or not, it definitely gives us all more of a chance to meet our A-G requirements. Lets hope every student uses the opportunity given to them to succeed in their high school education.
