The Teddy Bear

By Savannah Posada

Mommy said he will help me sleep at Night..

Mommy said he would scare the Demons away..

That he could be my guardian Angel..

Mommy Was WRONG..

The day mommy bought him was the day the little old innocent me had passed away..
Enjoyment and flush of relief had not once touched one nerve of my body...
The way he just sat there on my mommy’s lap was uncomforting...
The way he smiled was a way for him to say he is finally free...
His eyes were black as ebony.. No sign of good inside this teddy bear...
I was afraid.

As cold as the dead
Lonely as the grave
Dark as his eyes
I never felt so helpless

I cried so many nights
I had to hold my pillow tight
That Teddy Bear was always near me
I felt his hot unsteady breathing..

My heart never stopped beating
My inner conscious was continuously screaming
You can hear his chuckle by my ear
You can feel the cold bitterness of his glare...
His smile was the devil’s laughter
His touch was like consuming my innocence
His eyes had explained he’s ready
Ready to show me his darkest desires..

I couldn’t bare it
The feeling of hell was here
I was frightened and scared
I was imitated to do something..

Something that has never ever been done
I grabbed the teddy bear with no mercy
Jumped out of my bed without a second thought
He needs to be gone for good..

My skin was burning
As if he was ripping my flesh from within
I cried while grabbing the lighter
Grabbing the fuel..

Outside was cold..
Fresh and sweet..
But this teddy bear had brought darkness within me
Throwing the teddy bear on the ground

I saw it lying there..
Just lying there
He finally looked innocent
But I had no mercy..

Pouring the fuel over its body
Hearing his laugh surround in the wind
Lighting the lighter..
burning him to flames

The Teddy Bear was just smiling..
He slowly disintegrated into ash
A soft relief had flushed through my veins..

The teddy bear was gone…

But I felt something still there..

He never left....
But I felt something still there...

Breeze Dancers

The human body is a breeding ground for microscopic monsters. Whether you know it or not, your flesh has been colonized by millions of bacteria. Right now there are mites living on your face and eating your dead skin. Look it up if you don’t believe me, though you may regret you did.Your soul attracts parasites as well on a mystical level instead of a microscopic one. Those things feed on on your existence. The only thing you can do about them is to know your body is getting harvested by parasites. You're just flesh and eventually you will dissolve and no one will remember you. In the case of Sam Grace, she was 14. On a normal day after school she decided to visit a hospital called Morning Wake. What she didn't know at the time was that the place was shut down after patients of different ages and problems started dying from their skin rotting into dismal flesh. After a month, Sam’s flesh started to fall off. No one has seen Sam since she disappeared on July 22, 1976. But it is rumored that she still roams the hospital this very day.

Petrified Wishes...

By Skylar Duron

Since we’ve met I’ve been afraid of you,
I don’t know if you came on too strong or the fact that you’re always there,
Whatever it is I just can’t be around you,

I’ve tried to run away from you,
But you’re always there,
You make me want to become invisible,
But we both know that’s humanly impossible,

Just stay away from me,
Because I know what you’re trying to do,
And I don’t want to be held captive by your dangerous ways,
For I am not as strong as I look, Screaming from Behind.jpg
Especially when it comes to this,

I’ve tried to be nice,
Yet you still come,
So stay away from me,

So I don’t have to scream

Shadow Vision

By Charlotte Pitt

Shadows crawl along tattered walls
Scrapes embroider window panes
Silent Shrieks ring out inside these hollow halls
Lights flicker as they whisper
They whisper to the dead
They whisper to those
Who are trapped inside their head.
Though you cannot see them,
They can always see you.
They are there when least expected,
They watch you in your sleep.
No one has ever known
What has happened to this place.
Because no one ever leaves.

Nutri-Fruit Review

By Lauren Guizar

20151021_171256~2.jpg

This little gem will probably elude most people, as it is nestled in the Romoland Market off Highway 74. It’s tiny inside will surprise with many different foods and flavors.
Specialties

The eatery's main focuses are natural juices, shakes, and smoothies. They offer a variety of customizable drinks. They even let you create your own smoothies; choosing between your base, picking two fruits, and adding an extra boost like whey powder, almond butter, or chocolate.

Other Foods

Nutri-Fruit is more of a smoothie and juice bar that also carries a few antojitos, or any little cravings that you may have. Some of the antojitos include a lot of fresh fruit like their fruit cocktails, strawberries with cream, bionicos-fruit with cottage cheese and honey, flavored ice with real fruit bits, and tangy tamarind wrapped apples. Heavier snacks like hot dogs, bagels, sandwiches, tortas nachos and spicy Tostilocos are also available.
Service

One of the best things about the business is the service. Employees are always very friendly and provide fast service. They even take on special orders, such as making large quantities of tamarind apples for special occasions with a week’s notice. You can contact the store at (951)-928-1294 or go to them at 28480 Highway 74, Suite H.
Verdict

If you have a sweet tooth, enjoy your spiciness, or just feel like trying something new. It’s pretty cheap, tasty, clean, and local. I suggest checking this place out if you have the time.

Bloodborne Review

By Chase Portillo
For those of you who are familiar with RPGs, specifically Dark Souls, you have got to get your hands on Bloodborne.  If you aren’t aware, BloodBorne is a fast paced RPG where combat is mainly focused on timed evasions and well-placed shots to cripple your enemies and with the final blow from your melee weapon. BloodBorne takes place in the city of Yharnam, an eery town filled with coffins, stakes, and werewolves. A bloodborne pathogen has passed through the Victorian Era-esque city and gives those infected lycanthropy side effects such as long arms, hair growing through the body, as well as dementia and aggressiveness. You play as a lone hunter, using weapons crafted in your own blood to combat these monsters. These weapons are very interesting. Each of them is referred to as a “trick weapon” and serves two functions that can easily be switched by the push of a button, and can vary in certain styles of attack as well as damage. This game is hard, but you will be relieved to know that the gameplay is extraordinary and extremely smooth. Not to mention the amount of satisfaction felt when you defeat that boss that you’ve tried and tried 1000 times to beat and then finally defeat. There’s nothing else like it.  As with many RPGs, there are some sweet armor that can help you defeat said bosses, and are amazing to look at. All in all, I give this eerie bloody game a 9/10 because it just isn’t for everyone. Go buy yourself a copy today!

Why Steven Universe is Radical

By Lauren Guizar

Rebecca Sugar, the first woman to have created her own show on Cartoon Network, has brought into being one of the most beautifully formed alternate universes. This milky pastel world is home to  several main characters, including Steven Universe, his father, and The Crystal Gems.
Overview
The show is centered around a young boy by the name of Steven Universe and three female  alien beings, The Crystal Gems. We come to discover his affiliation with these beings, he is one of them or half at least. Steven is a gem on his mother’s, Rose Quartz, side and human on his father’s, Greg Universe. The Crystal Gems are all named and based off real-life gemstones; Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. They are have become protectors of Earth, fighting off otherworldly threats.

Revolutionary Side

Gender Roles

This show is breaking down so many walls by challenging gender roles. The human female leads, like Connie and Sadie, are shown as smart, strong and actually having their own distinct personalities. Connie is hinted as Steven’s love interest, yet she is not reduced to an object of affection and remains her own person. A popular observation is that Steven is not bother at all at expressing his feelings. He is shown to openly cry and demonstrate his feelings.

Sexuality

An example that clever undertones regarding sexuality is fusion. Many times there are serious conversations and warnings about “Fusion”, a choreographed dance that gems do in order to fuse together. As a fan this seems to be a loose reference to sex. In the early stages of Greg’s and Rose’s relationship a big barrier was that they would never be able to fuse as he is a human and she isn’t. It is revealed that Garnet is also a fusion of Sapphire and Ruby. It has been stated by co-executive producer Ian Jones-Quarterly that it is a romantic relationship, an example of lesbian/queer love. On one occasion, Steven and Connie are dancing around and accidentally fuse to make one being known as Stevonnie.

Sensitive Topics

It also deals with heavier topics, such as single parenthood, intergalactic love, and loss of a loved one. We come to find out about Steven’s parents, Rose and Greg, dealt with the struggles of being young and in love, but also the added weight that one of the them was not of this world. Needless to say this caused much confusion and misunderstanding, but ultimately created the most beautiful romance.
The relationship between Greg Universe and his son is also quite beautiful; it illustrates the bond between a single father. It is loving, awkward, and of course a bit rocky. In probably the most tear jerking episode, Lion 3: Straight to Video, Rose is finally seen(despite being mentioned in previous episodes) in the video that she is pregnant with Steven. The recording is basically her welcoming and saying goodbye to her son.

Conclusion
I obviously am a big fan of the show. I recommend this show to anyone. It is still innocent and fun to where children will enjoy it, and mature enough to where even adults find it engaging. The plot is maturing, the art is phenomenal, and it truly is revolutionizing how social norms are presented in cartoons.

Our Heritage High School Library offers a place for HHS students to study and check out books. The library is run by Ms. Bostick who has been working here for 7 years.

What many students don’t know about our library is that you can ask Jamie Bostick to buy books for our school library as long as the book is not in the public library system.

The school library is open from 7:30-3:00 and you can step on in if you have a free period. If you have to study after school, have no fear, Ms.Bostick is still there to check out school textbooks so you can study and do homework after school, as long as you have your ID card.

The only requirement needed to check out library books are your ID card. You can check out a maximum of three books for two weeks.

Books you should check out at our school's library include The Crank series by Ellen Hopkins and The Complete Poems and Short Stories of Edgar Allen Poe.

Virtual Reality, the thing of the future?

By Jessie Woodward

Virtual reality is the top talk with the gaming community and almost every other community ever. Currently, most virtual reality has has you putting on clunky goggles with little game to it, but soon hopefully that will change with the deal between Oculus VR and Facebook. But how does it work?

Well what is virtual reality?

Virtual reality is using goggles or a clunky helmet and a computer to render a 3D world that one can interact with and explore.

Now we talk about how it works.

We can start with the headgear which most commonly uses two LCD screens, or not as commonly, Cathode ray tubes. Those are usually too heavy, bulky, and uncomfortable to wear. There are other methods, but they have brightness and resolution problems and are expensive. Along with these visual effects, there are usually headphones or speakers so that the user can feel fully immersed in the VR experience.

The Cave

If you don’t like the sound of  this headgear tech there is a CAVE system, which stands for Cave Automatic Virtual Environment. This system sounds difficult to produce, but is actually a small space or cube room which usually has three walls and sometimes the floor and ceiling lit up and they act as monitors. However you still have to wear some weird goggles that are similar to 3D glasses. The actual walls are rear-projection screens that have a stereoscopic format and are projected in a fast alternating pattern. Along with that the goggles, they have shutters that synchronise with the alternating pattern with a tracker that tells the computer how to alternate, and usually the user has controllers to interact with the environment.

VR clothing

While all these other devices are important, some researchers feel that for the most immersive experience will be clothing. Slowly but surely there are human-machine interface devices. With bodysuits and gloves, these HMI devices provide a total experience using fiber optic cables using light of all things track movement depending on how much light actually hits the sensor. Others use a rubber material covered in a conductive in that the CPU track movement accordingly. On the more accurate hand there is a DHM, a dexterous hand master using sensors attached to the joints of the hand and some mechanical links. These are the best but are also more cumbersome.

VR is still in its early development stages but hopefully soon within the decade they will master this new immersive technological system.

Do students like seven periods? Poll says otherwise...

By Sedona Como
Edited by Tyler Burns

A poll conducted at the school found that only 40% of students and staff are in favor of seven periods.

Out of the 180 students and staff members that were asked, 72 preferred the seven period schedule. “7 periods help you get more class options, and you can meet the A-G requirements faster” said Sylvasna Olivares, a Sophomore who supports the new change. Another student, Erin Rytych, said “now the seniors have an extra period to make up failed classes instead of having to take a zero period or staying after school.”

Mr. Opiyo, who teaches English, had another view on it. “Personally I don’t like a seven period day, but if it helps the kids I’m willing to make a sacrifice.” Many other students voiced their complaints, stating “My life does not revolve around school” and “I already have things to do at home on top of homework, but now I come home later and I can’t finish everything on time and it stresses me out.”

Whether we prefer the 7 period bell schedule or not, it definitely gives us all more of a chance to meet our A-G requirements. Lets hope every student uses the opportunity given to them to succeed in their high school education.
